CHICAGO (Reuters) -Chicago wheat futures hit the daily 70-cent trading limit cap on Monday after India banned exports of the grain, an abrupt policy change that fanned concerns about global supplies strained by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The wheat rally sent spillover strength to corn futures, as global buyers, who were banking on supplies from the world's second-biggest wheat producer, scrambled to respond, traders said. Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February has supercharged already rising commodity and fuel prices and kept global policymakers busy trying to contain red-hot inflationary pressures. Fuel prices, a big component of the increase, jumped 38.66% on the year versus 34.52% in March. Wholesale manufactured product prices rose 10.85%, against 10.71% in the prior month, while food prices accelerated at an 8.88% pace, versus 8.71% the previous month, data showed.

Creating a risk-off mood on Monday, China's retail and factory activity fell sharply in April as extensive COVID-19 lockdowns confined workers and consumers to their homes. NEW YORK (Reuters) -After hitting seven-week highs, oil prices slumped 2% on Tuesday as Reuters reported that the United States could ease some restrictions on Venezuela's government, raising hopes that the market could see some additional supplies. Prices also fell after Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell warned the economy could be hurt by attempts to reduce inflation. Brent crude fell $2.31, or 2%, to settle at $111.93 a barrel, and U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell $1.8, or 1.6%, to settle at $112.40 a barrel.

Oil prices rose on Monday on optimism that China would see significant demand recovery after positive signs that the country's coronavirus pandemic was receding in the hardest-hit areas. Brent crude futures for July delivery rose $2.69 to settle at $114.24 a barrel, a 2.4% gain, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude rose $3.71, or 3.4%, to $114.20 a barrel. However, it is estimated that 46 cities in China are under lockdowns, hitting shopping, factory output and energy usage.
