Now, as Trump Media & Technology Group approaches its first month as a publicly traded company, it’s clear that — like the man it’s named after — there’s nothing typical about the stock. “If I woke up tomorrow and shares were zero dollars, or $100, I would not be surprised,” said Matthew Tuttle, a professional investor who bought $800 in Trump Media stock last week when it was at an all-time low. With Trump facing dozens of federal felony charges and hundreds of millions in legal expenses, Trump Media went public on March 26 on the Nasdaq exchange.

As U.S. inflation worries grow, some investors are preparing for the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield to breach a 16-year high of 5% hit last October. Bond yields, which move inversely to prices, have climbed in recent weeks as signs of persistent inflation erode expectations for how deeply the Federal Reserve will be able to cut interest rates without further fueling consumer prices. Many investors are betting further weakness lies ahead for bonds.
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. economic growth in the first quarter fell below the Federal Reserve's estimates of the economy's long-run potential for the first time in nearly two years, but the signs of slowing were accompanied with fast inflation that, if sustained, would pose a particular dilemma for the central bank. Fed officials through much of their battle with a pandemic-driven breakout of inflation said it would take a period of below-trend growth to bring price pressures fully into line, and the 1.6% rate of expansion registered in the first quarter met that mark after a period where the economy grew faster than the central bank's median 1.8% estimate of noninflationary potential. But prices have remained sticky, with the data on Thursday also showing the personal consumption expenditures price index over the first quarter rising at a 3.4% annual rate versus the Fed's 2% target.

Sri Lanka will hand over management of its $209 million Chinese-built airport to two Indian and Russian companies, a cabinet statement said on Friday, as the island nation attempts to reduce losses from its state enterprises. Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA), funded by China EXIM Bank, has stoked controversy since its opening in 2013 due to a low number of flights, environmentally sensitive location and persistent financial losses. The airport's management will be handed over to Shaurya Aeronautics (Pvt) Ltd. of India and Airports of Regions Management Company of Russia for 30 years, a cabinet statement said, without mentioning the deal value.

Property values in London's Canary Wharf financial district fell by 1.2 billion pounds ($1.50 billion) over the past year, led by a decline in the value of its office buildings, the landlord said in annual results published on Thursday. Canary Wharf Group - which is joint owned by investors Brookfield and the Qatar Investment Authority - said in its 2023 earnings that its overall property portfolio declined in value to 6.8 billion pounds from 8 billion. Office buildings accounted for most of the decline, tumbling in value by more than 900 million pounds, the company said, adding that the "fair values" were determined by independent external valuers.
Investors appear to be losing patience with Big Tech's prodigious artificial intelligence investments this week after Meta Platforms signaled deeper spending and a long road to profitability. The concession from Meta in its quarterly report late on Wednesday cast a cloud over Microsoft and Alphabet, which will both report quarterly earnings on Thursday. Meta's stock sank 15% in extended trade after it forecast higher AI spending next year, while Microsoft was down 2%, Alphabet fell 3% and Nvidia dropped 1.4% in reaction.

Gold prices held gains on Friday after data showed that U.S. inflation rose in line with expectations, but the safe-haven metal was on track for a weekly fall as some geopolitical risk premiums eased. Spot gold was 0.3% higher at $2,338.65 per ounce by 1:47 p.m. ET (1747 GMT). The U.S. personal consumption expenditures (PCE) price index increased 0.3% last month, in line with forecasts, a development that is unlikely to change expectations that the Federal Reserve will hold off cutting interest rates until September.
TOKYO (Reuters) -Core inflation in Japan's capital slowed much more than expected in April and fell below the central bank's 2% target, data showed on Friday, complicating its decision on how soon to raise interest rates. The reading comes just hours ahead of the conclusion of the Bank of Japan's two-day policy meeting, where the board is set to keep interest rates steady and produce fresh quarterly inflation projections through early 2027. The core consumer price index (CPI) in Tokyo, a leading indicator of nationwide figures, increased 1.6% in April from a year earlier, slowing from a 2.4% gain in March.
