Apple Could Use the Australian Fine to Its Advantage
Last month, Apple (AAPL) was fined by an Australian court for disabling iPhones and iPads that had been repaired by unauthorized repair services. The ACCC sued Apple, claiming the company broke Australian consumer law by using a software update to disable iPhones and iPads fixed by third parties. Last month, Australia’s federal court agreed with the regulator and imposed a $6.7 million fine on Apple.
