BEIJING (Reuters) -China has opened an anti-dumping investigation into imported pork and its by-products from the European Union, a step that appears mainly aimed at Spain, the Netherlands and Denmark, in response to curbs on its electric vehicle exports. The investigation announced by China's commerce ministry on Monday will focus on pork intended for human consumption, such as fresh, cold and frozen whole cuts, as well as pig intestines, bladders and stomachs. HOUSTON (Reuters) -Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi on Monday sued the U.S. government to block the Biden administration's proposed rule that would require the offshore oil and gas industry to provide nearly $7 billion in financial assurances to cover costs of dismantling old infrastructure. The rule, which would take effect later this year, will predominantly affect smaller companies that do not have investment grade ratings or sufficient proven oil reserves. Oil majors are more likely to meet the credit criteria or have large reserves.
STORY: China’s uncertain economic recovery appears to have hit a few more bumps. Figures out Monday showed activity at factories sputtering. Industrial output grew 5.6% in May - that was down on a month before, and below analyst forecasts. The country’s ailing real estate sector was another drag. Property investment fell over 10% on the year over January to May. New home prices also dropped for an 11th straight month, and saw their steepest fall in almost a decade. That’s all despite government and central bank efforts to revive the sector, including support for affordable housing. Goldman Sachs estimates China is now saddled with unsold homes worth close to $2 trillion. There were some brighter spots in May’s figures, however. Even so, economists say the latest numbers will add to pressure on Beijing to shore up growth.
