Wall Street largely flat as retailers finish lower

Wall Street was largely unchanged on Tuesday though major retailers saw declines in share prices.

The tech-rich Nasdaq exchange, however, had its second record close of 2016, finishing up 12 points at 5225.48.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 0.02 percent at 18,533.05 while the S&P 500 was likewise up 0.04 percent at 2,181.74.

Stocks had risen during the day in anticipation of Tuesday's earnings from Disney.

Clothing retailers Gap Inc. and Nordstrom, department stores Macy's and Kohl's as well as Williams-Sonoma and Best Buy were all down.

Gap was down more than six percent on the previous day's close at $24.01, on the back of disappointing second-quarter results.

However, Wal-Mart Stores rose slightly, closing up 0.27 percent at $73.54.
