US shares dip despite strong Boeing, Dow Chem earnings

US stocks were slightly lower in opening trade Wednesday despite pulls upward from solid earnings reports delivered by Boeing, Dow Chemical and Delta Air Lines.

Ten minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 4.30 points (0.03 percent) at 16,510.07.

The S&P 500 fell 1.80 (0.10 percent) at 1,877.75, while the Nasdaq Composite lost 11.79 (0.28 percent) at 4,149.67.

Boeing shares jumped 2.1 percent after core earnings per share handily beat forecasts, and Dow Chemical gained 2.6 percent after reporting a 65 percent leap in first-quarter profit.

Delta climbed 5.8 percent.
