Trans World Entertainment key December sales figure falls 5.4 percent

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) -- Trans World Entertainment Corp.'s revenue at stores open at least a year fell 5.4 percent in December, sending the company's shares lower Thursday.

The retailer, which sells CDs, DVDs and video games at its f.y.e For Your Entertainment and Suncoast stores.

Revenue from stores open at least a year is considered a key indicator of a retailer's financial performance. It measures results at established stores while stripping away the impact of recently opened or closed locations.

For the nine weeks that ended on Jan. 4, the sales figure fell 6 percent at Trans Worlde. Total sales for this period were $115 million, down 10 percent from $128 million a year earlier.

The company's stock slid 19 cents, or 4.4 percent, to close at $4.15. It has traded in the 52-week range of $3.30 and $5.59.
