Orbitz names new chief operating officer

Online travel company Orbitz names Chris Orton as chief operating officer

Orbitz President Chris Orton was named chief operating officer of the company as well Monday, a position that had remained open since 2006.

Orton, 40, joined Orbitz as chief marketing officer in 2010. Before that he worked at online retailer eBay Inc. as a director of marketing. He will oversee all of Orbitz's travel brands, which includes its namesake website, CheapTickets and Ebookers.

Shares of Orbitz Worldwide Inc. rose 3 cents to $7.23 in morning trading.
