Europe's main stock markets closed up on Wednesday, London's FTSE 100 index of leading companies gaining 0.35 percent to 5,945.85 points.
Frankfurt's DAX 30 added 0.33 percent to 7,614.79 points, its highest level since January 2008.
Meanwhile in Paris the CAC 40 was essentially unchanged, edging up 0.01 percent to its highest level since July 2011 at 3,646.66 points.
