Vigil Held for Director of Photography Fatally Shot On Set of Rust

A vigil was held in Burbank, California, on October 24, for director of photography Halyna Hutchins, who was fatally shot on the set of Rust after Alec Baldwin discharged a prop firearm.

Hutchins, 42, died from her injuries at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Thursday, October 21, according to the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department.

According to court records seen by the Associated Press, Baldwin was handed a gun and told it was safe, when in fact it was loaded with live rounds. In a statement, Baldwin said there were “no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.”

On Friday, the International Cinematographers Guild said: "The details are unclear at this moment, but we are working to learn more and we support a full investigation into this tragic event. This is a terrible loss, and we mourn the passing of a member of our guild’s family.’’
