LinkedIn Career Expert Andrew McCaskill is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to growing your network and career goals. On the most recent episode of Living Not So Fabulously, he shares his three top tips for people as they search for the right mentor to help with their careers, with hosts David & John Auten-Schneider.
First — for "the internal stuff," as he calls it — he suggests thinking to oneself, "What do you want from a mentor in that relationship?" and finding someone you can be transparent with.
Second is to "identify people who are doing things in a way that you respect," because you've got to be able to respect someone in order to take their advice. This leads to McCaskill's last point: consider people from outside your own background because "they can judge you from where you are right now today and give you better advice."
