Surfers Hold 'Paddle Out' Protest in Byron Bay Against Netflix Reality Show

About 100 surfers held a “paddle out” demonstration in Byron Bay, New South Wales, on April 20 against a new Netflix reality series.

This footage, posted to Instagram, shows the protesters near Main Beach on Tuesday, where they formed a “no” symbol in the surf.

The streaming giant said there was no better backdrop for its docu-soap, Byron Baes, than Byron Bay and that the show would be a “love letter” to the tourist town.

But locals are angry they were not consulted before the program was commissioned and believe the show will exploit the town, the Sydney Morning Herald said. Credit: rovebyronbay via Storyful
