Protesters in Yangon Denounce Myanmar Junta

A group of anti-junta protesters marched in Yangon on December 6, in the wake of the sentencing of Aung San Suu Kyi and a day after several people died when a similar group was rammed by a car.

Video filmed by journalist Htet Arkar shows the crowd holding banners denouncing the junta and its leader, Min Aung Hlaing.

Myanmar’s rulers said Monday night that Aung San Suu Kyi and deposed president Win Myint would only serve half of the four-year sentences handed down earlier that day.

Protests have been frequent in Myanmar since a February coup by the military. The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (Burma) has estimated 1,303 people have been killed in severe crackdowns. Credit: Htet Arkar via Storyful
