Police Release CCTV Images Following Violent Burglary at Home of Olympic Cyclist

Police in Essex have released CCTV images after an aggravated robbery at the home of Olympic cyclist Mark Cavendish, who has described in an Instagram post the ordeal he and his family faced when four masked men forced their way into their home.

Essex Police said the robbery was “undoubtedly a targeted incident” and that it happened shortly after Cavendish had been discharged from hospital after suffering a collapsed lung and two broken ribs in a crash during the Ghent Six track event.

Cavendish said four “masked and armed men” threatened his wife and children, and “violently attacked” him.

Cavendish said his children “feared for their lives” during the targeted attack, and are now “struggling with the after-effects”.
