The Nigerian artist making Black prosthetics

VARIOUS OF A MICHEAL PICKING UP PROSTHETIC HAND AND SAYING (English):

"Wow. Finally I have my fingers back."

Most prosthetics in Nigeria are white

or made from unrealistic materials, like wood

But hyper-realistic Black prosthetics are being made

by this former movie special effects expert

(SOUNDBITE) (English) FOUNDER, IMMORTAL COSMETIC ART, JOHN AMANAM, SAYING:"We have prosthetics made of white skin. You rarely find people with black skin prosthetics, so I want the blacks.’’

"I became emotional about the amputees, I discovered I had one or two people who had amputations and they had this feeling of discomfort whenever they were around normal people and I saw it as a challenge that if I could give back or solve this need it will go a long way to ease them of that emotional trauma of discomfort and that loss of courage."

Amanam started making them in 2017

despite having no formal training in the field

His company sells the pieces for around $111

(SOUNDBITE) (English) PROSTHETIC USER, MICHEAL SUNDAY, SAYING:"It has really helped me because I can go about my normal life without looking at my hand without hiding my hands or fear of discrimination or pity."
