Kraft Macaroni and Cheese rebrands with new name, Burger King offers free onion rings for Onion Ring Day

Yahoo Finance Live checks out some of the latest headlines in food news.

Video transcript

SEANA SMITH: A name change coming to your favorite mac and cheese brand-- well, at least, my favorite. Kraft Macaroni and Cheese is making the switch after 85 years. Now the blue boxes that many of us know and love will now read Kraft Mac & Cheese. The logo will be updated as well. You can see it right there on the screen. Now the company saying in a statement that the change is, quote, meant to reflect the way fans originally talk about the brand, making it much easier. It just rolls off the tongue, Mac and Cheese. Rachelle, what do you think about this?

RACHELLE AKUFFO: I mean, I'm a big fan of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. And I think we've always called it Mac and Cheese. Does anyone still refer to it as Macaroni and Cheese? Right? I think it's sweet. It does read a little bit, hello, fellow children. Sort of, trying to relate and do something different. You see a lot of different brands trying to do something different out there. But, you know, I love the brand. I love the Mac and Cheese. And it is a staple for a lot of parents here when you've got, like, a kid who's a picky eater. That, they always seem to gravitate to.

DAVE BRIGGS: I was actually caught off-guard by this because I thought it always was Mac and Cheese. I did not know the name was Macaroni and Cheese. And who doesn't love that? Also a new box redesign there, really emphasizing the blue and the macaroni smile, as they call it, with the dripping cheese off of it. More food news, which is today is National Onion Ring Day. You can get free onion rings at Burger King with a $1 purchase through the app for the rewards customers.

It got me thinking, guys. I feel like onion rings were so popular for so many years. Everywhere you went, people were bragging about their onion rings. And then something happened. They kind of died out. Like, I don't know what happened to the trend. So I did some homework, and I figured it out. There was a moment when they died. And they died with Tony Soprano. Did you know the last thing he put in his mouth was an onion ring?

SEANA SMITH: How do you know this?

DAVE BRIGGS: On the finale-- check it out. This is the last ever episode of "Sopranos." And he orders some onion rings for everyone to share. Yep, one, two, and here goes Tony. That's the last thing he ever ate, man!

SEANA SMITH: Wow.

DAVE BRIGGS: An onion ring, and that's what killed him.

SEANA SMITH: You got to the bottom of the destruction.

DAVE BRIGGS: It killed Tony, and it killed onion rings. You're welcome, America!

SEANA SMITH: Wow.

DAVE BRIGGS: You're welcome.

SEANA SMITH: There we go. Leave it to--

DAVE BRIGGS: I solved it!

SEANA SMITH: --Dave to find that. I'm impressed. I'm impressed. I think we're both left speechless after that one.

DAVE BRIGGS: I solved the mystery.

RACHELLE AKUFFO: Only Dave. Only Dave.

DAVE BRIGGS: All right.
