Iraqi Defense Minister Meets Centcom Commander as US Weighs Deploying More Troops

Iraqi Defense Minister Khaled al-Obaidi received Gen. Lloyd Austin, commander of United States Central Command (CENTCOM), on Wednesday, June 10, as President Barack Obama’s administration weighs sending hundreds of additional troops to train Iraqi forces to fight against Islamic State militants.

This footage shows the two men meeting at the Ministry of Defense in Baghdad, where they discussed the possibility of increasing logistical equipment and armament, as well as training, according to a statement released by the Iraqi Ministry of Defense. The visit comes as the US is considering sending up to 500 additional troops and establishing a new training base in Iraq’s Anbar province, Reuters reported. Credit: Iraqi Mod
