Indian Rescue Teams Assist Residents of Kolhapur as Deadly Flooding Hits Maharashtra

Rescue teams from India’s National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) helped evacuate residents of Kolhapur from inundated streets on Thursday, July 22, video shows, as deadly flooding struck the state of Maharashtra.

The Kolhapur Police said area roadways were impassable due to flooding on Thursday and Friday.

On Friday, NDRF Director General Satya Pradhan reported 32 bodies had been recovered from a landslide in the village of Taliye and said more fatalities could be expected. Previously, on Sunday, July 18, the NDRF said at least 21 people were killed in the village of Chembur and 10 in the village of Vikhroli in landslides.

While a definitive death toll had not been determined, local news reports estimated “more than 100” had been killed and tens of thousands were displaced due to flooding and landslides across Maharashtra state. Credit: NDRF India via Storyful
