Ford has finally delivered its first electric F-150 lightning pickup truck amid high popularity.

RACHELLE AKUFFO: Welcome back, everyone. Look out, Tesla. The race for electric pickup truck supremacy took a new turn, with Ford delivering its first ever F-150 Lightning in the US. Now, the lucky person, Nicolas Schmidt in rural Michigan, already owns a Tesla Model 3 and had originally put a deposit on a Tesla Cybertruck, but tweeted his cancellation, saying it was no longer needed with the F-150 Lightning in the driveway. Now, Schmidt's wife apparently relieved that the Lightning arrived first.

The unique-looking Tesla Cybertruck has been delayed since its introduction in 2019, with production expected in 2023. Ford, though, counting on its loyal base. The gas-powered F-150 has been the best selling vehicle in the US for the last 40 years. Dave, what's your take on that?

- Absolute game-changer. Look, first mover advantage may technically go to Rivian. That truck is beloved by Americans. And I'm surprised, the people I talked to in the middle of the country are very open and excited to drive the electric. I think they are going to dominate the industry flat out. I think the Tesla is hideous looking, is delayed. And Rivian has just really had issues with their production, and they just had a recent recall as well, Seana.

SEANA SMITH: Dave, you mentioned the fact that this is just a beloved truck, and take a look at the numbers even just to reserve this truck. They were initially targeting 40,000 trucks a year. They upped that to 80,000 by early 2023. Now that number has jumped to 150,000 by the middle of next year. So the demand is there. They need to meet that demand. It's a huge day for Ford, the fact that they actually delivered their first truck, blowing Tesla out of the water, at least for right now. But you're right, that's hideous.

- Pras tells us he loves how that thing drives as well.
