1.75 Million Moderna COVID Vaccines Arrive in Mexico From the United States

The second and final batch of 1.75 million Moderna COVID-19 vaccines gifted to Mexico by the United States arrived at the Toluca International Airport on September 21, Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Relations said.

These 1.75 million doses follow a previous shipment of 1.75 million Moderna doses that arrived in Mexico on August 24, making a combined total of 3.5 million doses.

In a press release on September 21, the secretary said Mexico has had 111,451,615 vaccine doses and counting from various providers available since December 23 and aims to have administered at least one dose to every person aged 18 and older by October 31.

Mexico has authorized the “emergency use” of nine different vaccines, including AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Sinopharm and Covaxin, according to the Secretary of Foreign Relations.

“Since May 25, almost 80,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have been given to more than 73,000 Mexicans on the border between [Mexico and the United States]. About 30,000 more doses will be given there,” the secretary said in a press release on August 24, following the first Moderna shipment from the United States.
