French regulator seeks €25m fine for Morgan Stanley bond trades
Morgan Stanley could face a €25m fine after allegations from French regulators that it manipulated European bond markets in an effort to avoid large losses on its trades. The bank’s London trading desk bought futures contracts on French and German debt in June 16 2015 in order to drive up the price of eurozone debt, before selling more than €1bn of French and Belgian bonds, an official from the French markets regulator told a hearing in Paris on Friday. According to the Autorité des Marchés Financiers’ investigation, the traders at Morgan Stanley aimed to raise the price of futures to “abnormal and artificial levels” in order to avoid millions of euros of losses.

Chinese biotech Alphamab seeks approval for HK IPO of up to $350 mln -sources
Chinese biopharmaceutical company, Alphamab Oncology, plans to seek listing approval early next month for a Hong Kong initial public offering (IPO) of up to $350 million, people with direct knowledge of the matter said. Alphamab plans to carry out a deal roadshow and go public by the end of the year, the people added, as the Asian financial hub gets back into business after a freeze in recent months amid frequently violent anti-government protests. The company, backed by Hong Kong-based investment firm PAG, has appointed CLSA, Jefferies Financial Group and Morgan Stanley as sponsors to its IPO - a deal that has been in the planning stages for at least five months.

Eurozone economy defies expectations with modest growth
The eurozone economy continued to grow at a modest pace in the third quarter, defying expectations that it would suffer a further slowdown because of trade tensions and Brexit uncertainty. The single currency area’s economy expanded 0.2 per cent in the three months to September, unchanged from the previous quarter, giving it an annual growth rate of 1.1 per cent, according to Eurostat, the European Commission’s statistics agency. The flash estimate showed that the eurozone economy has stabilised, countering fears that it could slow down.
