SAN JOSE, Calif., June 28, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: MXIM) today introduced the next generation of its infrared-based dynamic optical sensor, able to sense a broader range of gestures at extended distances. The MAX25405 detects a wider proximity of movement and doubles the sensing range to 40cm when compared to earlier generations, all in a quarter of the size and at 10x lower cost than time-of-flight (ToF) camera-based systems in automotive, industrial and consumer applications. These enhancements offer an alternative to voice communications, enabling drivers to focus on the road.

Maxim Integrated (NASDAQ:MXIM) fell 2.4% on a report that timing for China's antitrust approval of Analog Devices' (NASDAQ:ADI) acquisition may be moved out. Analog Devices dropped 1.8%.
It appears that some customers may have some issues with export controls and the Anti-Monopoly Bureau of China's State Administration for Market Regulation ("SAMR") is trying to remedy the issue, according to traders, who were citing a report that was being circulated around.
The deal is still likely to be approved, it just appears to be taking longer, according to the report. A report also circulated in mid-May that the deal was getting closer to gaining Chinese approval and Dealreporter said in late April that Chinese third parties weren't raising major issues.

Let's hear it for a new 5 year high! "SAN JOSE, Calif., June 14, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Designers working to achieve automotive functional safety in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) can now reduce solution size and complexity with the MAX16137 single-window voltage monitor with built-in self-test (BIST) from Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: MXIM). This window monitor IC delivers robust protection by tracking both undervoltage and overvoltage levels with 1-percent accuracy allowing designers to accelerate system-wide functional safety by providing advanced diagnostics and reset capabilities. The MAX16137 also cuts solution size in half and helps reduce design complexity."

It certainly looks like the merger approval is going to come at the shareholders meeting on the 27th.

Every share of MXIM = $0.63 of ADI. Based on ADI's current share price of $121.64, that means the buyout is worth $76.63. TL:DR, MXIM is a buy at this price.

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - U.S. semi-conductor maker Analog Devices Inc (ADI) is set to gain unconditional European Union antitrust approval for its proposed $21 billion takeover of Maxim Integrated Products, a person familiar with the matter said.

The deal, ADI's biggest, will boost its market share in automotive and 5G chipmaking and enable it to better compete with larger firms including Texas Instruments.

The European Commission, which is scheduled to decide on the bid by March 31, declined to comment. ADI and Maxim did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

nice to see days like this. Never check in here and it looks like no one else does either. This is one of the best (IMO) IC makers. Not as large but has been growing tremendously this year. Soon to compete with Taiwanese semi.

    Firstly, this volatility is expected.
Don’t forget that this is like a biotechs and tech stocks their infancy stages.
I’ve seen and swings like this many-a-time.
I bought $RHT when it was trading around $55, and watched it drop and stay in the $40s range, the same with $SQ, $WVE, $MXIM, $ITW, $ALKS...
Keep in mind that aside from the shorts, there are investors who bought some of their $CGC shares on Margin. And I’m fairly certain the latter has something to do with the selling.

Based on MXIM's chart and the way it's trading through all this volatility, I think the smart money believes that they are in negotiations with Renesas to be acquired. Time will tell, but I'm thinking of adding more shares in anticipation of a substantial premium.

Wow. Now those crummy stock options that they gave me when I worked there would finally be in the money.
  • J
    Just call me Barry!
So no Dividends for a year and no stock buybacks. That should add about $800 million in cash(based on what was spent in Q4) to the bank for ADI IF this deal goes through. Will the bonus checks for the be even larger this year given there will be no dividends?
BTW, anyone have any idea who the other two Directors will be joining ADI's BOD besides Tunc?

I always laugh because about once every 3 weeks there's some robo-article talking about "which is the better buy Maxim or ___", and each time they conclude that MXIM is the worse of the pair. And every time the stock just keeps inching higher.
