I'm a little surprised in the drop from low 70's to mid 60's. Wondering confidence level of other share holders that this deal will go through as communicated.
  • J
    Just call me Barry!
So no Dividends for a year and no stock buybacks. That should add about $800 million in cash(based on what was spent in Q4) to the bank for ADI IF this deal goes through. Will the bonus checks for the be even larger this year given there will be no dividends?
BTW, anyone have any idea who the other two Directors will be joining ADI's BOD besides Tunc?
  • M
Maxim is in cash accumulation phase. They will pay one more quarterly dividend before suspending it for four quarters and their buyback is on pause.

The cash generation for the 12 months beginning in the second quarter of their fiscal 2021 will be added to the balance sheet. For a reference, over a trailing 12 month period, Maxim generated $730M of free cash flow.

Every share of MXIM = $0.63 of ADI. Based on ADI's current share price of $121.64, that means the buyout is worth $76.63. TL:DR, MXIM is a buy at this price.

No dividend, this stock is going to mid $50's.

Then ADI will pull out and this stock will hover around low $50's as it should.

CEO will then bring back dividend while doing some layoffs along the way, as if this whole ADI thing never happened, except he's saved $800 millions in cash to be pumped back to cook up higher stock price.

failure of Maxim CEO to grow the company...too many bad purchases of company like voltera and vitesse....less than 10% premium...
ADI is now stuck with Maxim... a lot of duplicate products...layoffs coming to maxim

    Bad Stuff's Bad
Have had this on today's watch list. I'd be willing to bet that only a small percentage of today's volume was transacted by humans. Instead, it looks like the work of two very busy bots (Pump and Short), both taking turns every five minutes.

desperate move by maxim...not much growth for the last 10yrs...acquired mediocre low quality companies...has over $bil in debt...
the current inexperienced CEO destroyed it...

If Adi already agreed to buy, should we care about Mxim earnings?
  • b
mxim raised dividend by 10%. 68%+ Gross margin guidance. ...steady as you go.....on way to 100 over next few quarters if it doesn't get acquired before then.

Based on MXIM's chart and the way it's trading through all this volatility, I think the smart money believes that they are in negotiations with Renesas to be acquired. Time will tell, but I'm thinking of adding more shares in anticipation of a substantial premium.
  • M
    Firstly, this volatility is expected.
Don’t forget that this is like a biotechs and tech stocks their infancy stages.
I’ve seen and swings like this many-a-time.
I bought $RHT when it was trading around $55, and watched it drop and stay in the $40s range, the same with $SQ, $WVE, $MXIM, $ITW, $ALKS...
Keep in mind that aside from the shorts, there are investors who bought some of their $CGC shares on Margin. And I’m fairly certain the latter has something to do with the selling.
  • J
I always laugh because about once every 3 weeks there's some robo-article talking about "which is the better buy Maxim or ___", and each time they conclude that MXIM is the worse of the pair. And every time the stock just keeps inching higher.
  • J
A recent swath of articles came out saying to avoid the chip stocks. Was a buy signal if ever there was one. Up 6% since
  • r
I think MXIM was rightly evaluated before that crash, not the case of all other companies in that industry
I'm trying to find the best pick in that coming buy season... MXIM is on my list but I've to choose...
    Any thought on MXIM ?
