I hold Oil for the long run. I'm an electrical engineer and I have zero faith that the EV revolution is sustainable because of the power grid and utter lack of any capability to charge multiple vehicles quickly at the local level (houses). In my household there are 4 cars and the idea that I will run a cable out to one of my vehicles is ludicrous. In some countries maybe they can do it, but the US won't spend a dime on new infrastructure. Even the latest bill was pennies compared to what it needs to be for a new grid and we all know that simply goes to maintenance and raises for workers.
EV sales will happen, but the idea that by 2030 or even 2035 that all new cars will be EV's is laughable. Just stock market hype. If it reaches 25% by 2035 I will be shocked. EV's are for the rich. Hybrids would be the real game changer if everyone switched, but that doesn't sell any over-priced stock.
And for the good news, new Oil discoveries will grind to a halt and a shortage is coming. Oil at $200 should be great for all Oil stocks. I consider this my gas money fund so when gas hits $7 a gallon I have it paid for.

    2nd Largest oil/gas producer in China..... sold @ $288 a share in 2008, this is a BUY

It's a mystery to me how this stock can continue to decline when oil is steady at $70 per barrel. This company is going to print money. And the market is shrugging it off. Just weird.

Back in 2002, Warren Buffet made an investment in PetroChina. Buffet, ever the value investor, saw PetroChina, with its oil reserves and business fundamentals, to be a great company. Well, this investment returned multiple times for Buffet when he sold his stake a few years later.
As you can see from the chart of PetroChina's stock price, after Buffet made his investment, PetroChina went on a sky rocket ride upwards all the way to $262. At this point, PetroChina became the largest company in the world.
Well, the price has since been on a multi-year decline. It is now right back to the level where Buffet originally made his investment.

Shares of PetroChina have gained +42.4% in the past three months against the Zacks International Integrated Oil industry’s gain of +7.4%. The Zacks analyst believes that with higher energy production and lower lifting costs supporting the company's exploration and production segment, the stock is likely to gain further.

Meanwhile, PetroChina is also well-positioned to capitalize on China’s growing natural gas demand. The company’s natural gas business offers lucrative growth prospects in the coming years as China moves from coal to natural gas. Notably, PetroChina's upstream unit witnessed a growth of 4.1% in production in 2020.

PTR has a 9% dividend, 0.36 Price/Book Value and 1900% earnings growth next year. Does anyone else see a massive opportunity?
  • S
