"Exclusive: GM to manufacture own 'family' of EV drive systems, motors
    Reuters

    ,Reuters•September 16, 2020
    on Yahoo Finance ...
(Reuters) - General Motors Co is set to announce plans on Wednesday to put into production an interchangeable "family" of electric vehicle (EV) drive systems and motors, boosting manufacturing efficiencies as it transitions to a fully electric lineup.

The move, which follows earlier GM initiatives on next-generation batteries, comes as the Detroit automaker looks to build a vertically integrated electric car business, comparable to Tesla , inside its ongoing operations."
Is GM a threat to TSLA? Mary Barra said she paid her due diligence on NKLA. We shall see. If she is wrong, and this turns out to be a boondoggle, she has now lost any chance at a law suit by that statement. MS. Barra has done a fairly good job with GM, much better than Bill Ford at Ford, but is no match for TSLA. Not even close. I do wish her luck, though. The United States needs a strong automotive sector, on all accounts, and needs to beat down the international competition.

I have read a scientific review of hydrogen fuel cell technology. What it seems is that it is not that efficient. There is a lot of lost energy during production, storage, and transfer. May never really be a big source of energy for transportation unless efficiency is improved.

Travis’s prior experience largely consisted of pouring concrete driveways and doing subcontractor work in Hawaii WILL work well for the highly skilled educated position to develop a new ways of powering the hydrogen. With his expertise on concrete setting phase and plumbing problems and fixes...Travis is highly trust among all the scientists with PhDs in their field.

it’s pretty clear the SEC is pursuing NKLA (not the reverse) under 10(b) of the 1934 Act. I believe $GM will soon void the $NKLA deal, and NKLA will fall below $20.

Good morning some news on GM. "jeye"
The U.S. auto giant recently unveiled the ‘Ultium Drive’ system, which will aid the company in transitioning to a fully-electric lineup down the road. The auto biggie is set to put into production ‘a set of five interchangeable drive units and three electric motors’, collectively referred to as Ultium Drive. So basically, rather than outsourcing for EV parts, the company looks to develop and produce the components in-house. By choosing to design its own e-axles, General Motors will be able to better integrate those with an electric car’s battery and the rest of the EV. Further, by the way of consolidation of wiring and other reductions, Ultium Drive is expected to be cost efficient. It is expected to drive battery cell cost below the $100/kWh level and the firm will be able to forge ahead even faster as it scales up EV production capabilities.

The company’s next-generation EVs (from small electric cars to electric pickup trucks) will be powered by Ultium Drive, which will not only boost General Motors’ manufacturing efficiencies but will also enhance the performance and range of its future vehicles. The Ultium Drive system will provide the foundation for General Motors’ upcoming green vehicles including the luxury Cadillac Lyric, Hummer pickup and SUV, an electric van, along with two EVs that the firm is making in collaboration with Honda Motor

In my opinion GM never checked Nikola technology just wanted to participate in the euphoria of EV tech high valuations ,which they did the 11% is worth 10 billion. That is why I do not think GM checked and verified the validity of Nikola claims.

In the event of a spin-off how are existing shareholders treated.
Would we get shares of the spinoff but see the then stripped GM shares drop in value?
    Any help would be appreciated

CNBC 9/13/2020 6:10:50 AM: ...when the deal was actually announced. >> mike, what do you think of this trade >> i think tony's right about one thing. and that is that obviously all of the news is going on around nikola that may have some impact on general Motors, but it's not the key story for General Motors' success. one of the things i also like is that put selling is really a good investment strategy when you take a look at things that you can do recurrently to generate some yield to buy stocks that you want to purchase at lower prices so those things all make sense to me obviously General Motors has been trading at a discount for quite a while. and one of the things they are facing is they have a lot of debt but at the moment they have sufficient cash to cover their needs. and the put that he's selling, expiring as it does in october, actually expires prior to the next time they announce earnings, which will obviously be the big and major catalyst that could potentially move the stocks sharply so i like the strategy if i was forced to try to say would you rather, nikola or general Motors or tesla, general motors is probably the stock that i would choose. >> i'm excited to get to carter's take.
