The price of a postage stamp in Germany must increase next year to cover rising costs, postal service operator Deutsche Post said on Tuesday. "In view of drastically increased costs due to inflation, higher energy prices and the very high tariff settlement in 2023 as well as an unexpectedly strong fall in letter volumes, there is no way around an increase in postage charges," said Nikola Hagleitner, CEO of Deutsche Post's domestic post and parcel division. It has applied to the federal network regulator to lift a price cap currently in place until the end of 2024, with the goal of raising its postage stamp prices next year.
Deutsche Post's freight business could integrate large acquisitions, the head of the unit told Reuters on Wednesday, adding that if Deutsche Bahn's Schenker business were put up for sale, the company would have to see if it would be a good fit. Deutsche Bahn's supervisory board last year instructed management to prepare for the possible sale of its Schenker logistics business but there have been no further details. "We are in a position to integrate larger acquisitions," said Deutsche Post freight chief Tim Scharwath.
Deutsche Post AG (DPSGY) might move higher on growing optimism about its earnings prospects, which is reflected by its upgrade to a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy).
Germany's Deutsche Post postal company said on Saturday it had agreed a wage deal with the Verdi trade union that would enable it to avoid an indefinite strike threatened by unionised workers. The offer - which members still need to vote on - would give Deutsche Post's 160,000 employees in Germany a one-off payment of 3,000 euros over 15 months and raises monthly wages by 340 euros from April 1, 2024, the company said in a statement. That means wages will rise in total by 11.5% on average, with salaries for workers in lower-paid brackets set to increase by more than 20%.
BERLIN (Reuters) -Members of Germany's Verdi trade union backed an indefinite strike at Deutsche Post on Thursday but also said wage negotiations would continue on Friday. Some 86% of union members polled had voted to reject the German postal company's current wage offer, well above the 75% threshold required for industrial action, the union said. Deutsche Post, which owns logistics giant DHL, called on the union to enter another round of negotiating.
Deutsche Post increased its dividend for 2022 to 1.85 euros per share after a record year on Thursday, up from 1.80 euros a year earlier, and was expanding its share buyback programme, but flagged a challenging year ahead. The company said its 2023 earnings before income and tax (EBIT) guidance covers three scenarios and ranges from 6-7 billion euros, with an EBIT target of more than 8 billion for 2025.
Roughly 160,000 members of German trade union Verdi are set to begin voting on Monday on whether to hold an all-out strike after talks with logistics company Deutsche Post failed in the third round of negotiations last week. If more than 75% of members vote against Deutsche Post's offer, Verdi will initiate indefinite industrial action, the union said in a statement on Wednesday. The results will be announced on March 9, said Andrea Kocsis, deputy chair of Verdi, who added that industrial action was still possible while the ballot was being conducted.
Logistics company Deutsche Post and Germany's Verdi union failed to settle their wage dispute in the third round of negotiations, both sides said in statements on Friday. Verdi said they had initiated a vote for union members at Deutsche Post on whether to take an all-out strike following the failed talks. The services sector union, which has demanded a 15% wage rise for the roughly 160,000 employees in Germany with a term of 12 months, has held massive warning strikes before the upcoming vote on an all-out strike.
Deutsche Post subsidiary DHL is interested in buying Schenker, the logistics subsidiary of German rail operator Deutsche Bahn, Manager Magazin reported on Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter. The report said Schenker could be sold at a price well below 20 billion euros due to a slowdown in the logistics sector. A spokesperson for Deutsche Post would not comment on the report.
BERLIN (Reuters) -German union Verdi is demanding a 15% wage increase for about 160,000 Deutsche Post workers, the union said on Monday, citing soaring inflation and rising profit at the logistics and mail group. Verdi's demand, among the highest by major unions this year, is in response to inflation that hit 11.6% in Europe's largest economy last month while worries mount over the rising cost of living. "Our members expect compensation for inflation and, in addition, a share in the company's success," Andrea Kocsis, Verdi deputy chair and negotiator, said in a statement.

German logistics company Deutsche Post will hike its full-year guidance when it reports third-quarter financial results on Nov. 8, it said on Monday, citing a rise in quarterly profits. Earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) rose to 2.04 billion euros ($1.98 billion) in the three months through September from 1.77 billion in the year-earlier period, Deutsche Post said in an unscheduled statement. That beat analysts' expectations for 1.93 billion euros, according to a consensus published on Deutsche Post's website.

German services sector trade union Verdi will aim to at the very minimum gain compensation for soaring inflation in upcoming wage negotiations in the public sector, with Deutsche Post and in retail, union chief Frank Werneke said on Thursday. Verdi in August helped achieve a deal at Lufthansa that the company said translated to an increase in gross base salaries of 8.3% for workers earning 6,500 euros a month and of 19.2% for those making 2,000 euros.

Logistics giant DHL will charge private customers more for parcel deliveries from July 1 as labour and transport costs have made price increases unavoidable, said the company on Monday. DHL, part of the Deutsche Post DHL Group, will increase the price to ship a parcel abroad by between 1 euro and 3.50 euros, excluding those bound for the United States, which, depending on the parcel size, will nearly double in price. "The company is only partially passing on to customers what are in some cases steep increases in airfares and the substantial rise in costs charged by delivery partners abroad to Deutsche Post DHL for delivering merchandise items," it said.
