With its reputed anti-inflammatory benefits, cannabis beauty went from strength to strength in 2019, with the trend for CBD-infused personal care products reaching new heights. We round up some of the biggest launches from the past 11 months.
Amber Rose is launching a CBD-infused, intimate skincare line. The line, which launches on November 29, focuses on "premium, organic, CBD-infused skincare products that elevate the intimacy that exists between you and your body; and also, between you and your partner," according to a press statement from the brand. The debut collection includes a ‘Bath Dust' that combines the calming qualities of aromatherapy with a potent 200mg shot of cannabidiol extract, and a ‘Body Wash' made with probiotics, tea tree oil and flower extracts designed to keep pH at ideal levels.
Brazilian supermarkets chain Grupo Pao de Acucar SA <PCAR4.SA> has teamed-up with a local brewery to launch its own craft beer brand, a move likely to boost the share of in-house products in its total sales to over 20% in 2020, an executive said. The local subsidiary of France's Casino Guichard Perrachon SA <CASP.PA> currently offers its customers over 2,000 in-house products from various categories, representing approximately 13% of total sales, according to its most recent earnings report. GPA's launch of its "Fábrica 1959" beer brand comes amid growing consumer interest in craft beers around the world.
Bella Thorne has announced that she is launching her own cannabis and CBD brand. Thorne's new brand, which goes by the name ‘Forbidden Flowers,' will offer Indica, Sativa, Hybrid and CBD varieties cultivated at Glass House Farms in Santa Barbara, using "coastal sun, organic standards and environmental sensibility," according to the company. "I have struggled with anxiety for many years, and weed was the one source I found for me to do the most healing," said Thorne in a statement.
Three months after becoming the largest shareholder and chairman of Brazilian electronics and appliance retailer Via Varejo SA, retail veteran Michael Klein and his family are now considering the sale of the domain Extra.com to former controller GPA SA. "We are still valuing the domain to begin talks with GPA or other groups," Via Varejo's chairman, Klein, told journalists on Wednesday, adding the retailer currently handles independently all logistics, pricing and other commercial strategies for Extra online sales. GPA, controlled by France's Casino Guichard Perrachon SA , which has been restructuring its operations in Latin America, declined to comment.
Companhia Brasileira (CBD) is battling macroeconomic headwinds and hurdles related to high investment costs. However, the Assai segment continues to stand strong.
French supermarket retailer Casino <CASP.PA>, which is battling investor concerns over debts and its ability to generate cash, scrapped its dividend as it targeted net debts below 1.5 billion euros (£1.4 billion ) in France by the end of next year. Analysts welcomed the decision to cancel the dividend, saying it would help the financial position of Casino, whose difficulties have led to it being targeted by hedge funds. Casino, which has been selling assets to reduce its debt and which also controls Brazil's Grupo Pao de Acucar <PCAR4.SA>, said first-half group operating profit reached 347 million euros against 337 million euros last year.
