Amazon is doubling down on its Fire TV business.
SEATTLE, March 22, 2023--Today Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) announced the expansion of its Amazon-built TV family. The Amazon-built TV lineup will now include three new sizes of the Fire TV Omni QLED Series lineup, which includes the Fire TV Ambient Experience; and introduce the affordable Fire TV 2-Series which starts at just $199.99. Profits have become the driving force for many streaming services, and Warner Bros. Discovery (NASDAQ: WBD) may be the closest to reaching that goal. Management said its direct-to-consumer segment, which includes HBO Max and Discovery+, will be about breakeven on an earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) basis for the first quarter of the year. The milestone comes after CEO David Zaslav mercilessly cut content expenses, including several high-profile cancellations.
