Matching sets of jewelry meant to be worn together may seem old-fashioned—and indeed, the origins of the parure date back to the 1600s when it was en vogue to wear a coordinating brooch, ring, bracelet, earrings, and necklace paired with a long dress to evening salons where sophisticated socializing took place. The more elaborate and intricate the parures, the better: Some royals had up to 16 pieces in their suites, including tiaras, diadems, and jeweled buttons. King Louis XIV was known for his love of diamond parures that he donned for balls and parties.
Perhaps more suited to everyday life, a demi-parure is the little sister of the parure: A suite of jewelry that is made up of two or three pieces and historically has been less ornate and intricate than the grand dame parure. With working from home is still very much a thing and needing to make sure one is at least put together from the waist up, these miniature matching sets may be something to reconsider.
