West Ham player ratings vs Brighton: Michail Antonio cumbersome and Craig Dawson poor in late draw

A late Neal Maupay goal snatched three points from West Ham and made it three Premier League games without a win for the Hammers.

West Ham took an early lead through Tomas Soucek’s header but could not capitalise and were dominated by Brighton before the visitors finally struck in the 89th minute.

Moyes had this week backed Soucek to find his touch in front of goal once more and it took just five minutes for the Czech to repay the faith shown by his manager.

With Aaron Cresswell injured, Pablo Fornals took charge of corner duties and whipped a peach to Brighton’s near post, where Soucek rose to flick it in for his first goal since the opening day of the season.

West Ham thought they had doubled the lead early in the second half when the ball was bundled home from another corner, only for a lengthy VAR check to rule Michail Antonio offside and have the goal chalked off.

Brighton should have levelled when Adam Lallana was left free on the edge of the box but the former Liverpool man managed to hook wide and let the Hammers off the hook.

West Ham improved after the introduction of Manuel Lanzini while Brighton were forced to play with ten men after Lallana was forced off through injury with all three subs made.

West Ham could not make the advantage count however and conceded late as Tariq Lamptey swung a cross over for Maupay, who held off Craig Dawson and sent an acrobatic effort past Lukasz Fabianski.

Lukasz Fabianski 7

Fantastic first half save to deny Jakub Moder at the near post, could do little about the leveller.

Vladimir Coufal 6

First league start in almost two months. More of a threat going forward than Johnson and provided some good crosses but played Lamptey onside before he crossed for Brighton’s equaliser.

Craig Dawson 5

Poor on the ball and out of position to allow Lallana time to take aim for what should have been an equaliser before being too soft with Maupay for the goal.

Kurt Zouma 6

Not his finest performance in claret and blue. Caught on the ball in the first half and a little shaky in the second, though he was not alone.

Ben Johnson 6

Played down the left in place of Cresswell. Solid at the back and some dangerous crosses but not quite at the level of the man he was replacing.

Declan Rice 6

Impressive at the back with a number of last minute interceptions but not as influential on the ball as he can be.

Tomas Soucek 7

Back on the score sheet after 18 games without a goal and showed more energy in midfield than recent weeks.

Jarrod Bowen 6

Plenty of energy in running in behind but finishing let him down on two occasions.

Said Benrahma 5

Got into good positions on the break and worked hard off the ball but wasteful with any chances to create.

Pablo Fornals 6

Another fantastic set piece delivery but struggled to create too much from open play.

Michail Antonio 5

Another stodgy showing from West Ham’s talisman. Didn’t look confident taking people and managed just one shot on target.

Substitutes

Manuel Lanzini 6

Instantly injected some life into the attacking play, could be close to breaking his way into the starting XI.

Arthur Masuaku 6

Caused some trouble and battled well with Lamptey after coming on.
