Wanna work for Trump? Try the gig protecting humpback whales or 9,000 other jobs

May the odds be ever in your favor. Thousands of jobs are up for grabs in Washington as the capital prepares for a Donald Trump administration.

The 2016 United States Policy and Supporting Positions, popularly known as "The Plum Book," lists more than 9,000 federal civil service positions in Donald Trump 's administration. A transition team spokesman told CNBC that as of Monday afternoon, 69,993 people have applied through the transition team's website.

Besides high-profile roles in the CIA , Department of Defense and the Federal Reserve , the government is also hiring people for departments and agencies off the beaten path. For example, there are many openings in the Committee for Purchase From People Who Are Blind or Severely Disabled and the Marine Mammal Commission, an independent agency charged with protecting marine mammals and the environment.

Those interested in government integrity may want to apply for one of three roles in the Office of Government Ethics, which describes its mission as to "provide overall leadership and oversight of the executive branch ethics program designed to prevent and resolve conflicts of interest." Given concerns about Trump's potential conflicts of interest, these jobs could be busy.

People who are hoping to build bridges — diplomatic, in this case — instead of walls may consider roles in the Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission, Institute of Peace or the Commission on International Religious Freedom.

Individuals who may be concerned about recent developments with China might want to considering applying for a job with the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.
