Virgin America brand to disappear by 2019

Virgin America will be no more as of 2019.

In the merger between Alaska Airlines and Virgin America, the latter will be swallowed to adopt Alaska's name and logo, announced Alaska Air Group.

After 10 months of research, the group said it decided to go with Alaska Airlines as its primary brand for its largely West Coast consumer base.

However, the airline said it will adopt some of the Virgin America amenities that were popular among flyers along with introducing new features.

Cabins will be redesigned to include new and improved premium seats with cup holders, footrests, personal power outlets, storage pockets and more pitch.

A curated selection of music from fresh new artists will be featured on planes, airport lobbies and gates. Cabins will be retrofitted with expressive blue mood lighting, and cabin crew will be outfitted with new uniforms by designer Luly Yang in mid-2019.

Onboard entertainment including movies and TV shows are now free, as is Free Chat, an onboard messaging service that allows flyers to connect with friends and family via Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and iMessage.
