Ventas (VTR) Q1 FFO and Revenues Surpass Estimates

Ventas (VTR) came out with quarterly funds from operations (FFO) of $0.97 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.87 per share. This compares to FFO of $0.99 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.

This quarterly report represents an FFO surprise of 11.49%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this seniors housing real estate investment trust would post FFO of $0.92 per share when it actually produced FFO of $0.93, delivering a surprise of 1.09%.

Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus FFO estimates four times.

Ventas, which belongs to the Zacks REIT and Equity Trust - Other industry, posted revenues of $1.01 billion for the quarter ended March 2020, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 4.60%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $942.87 million. The company has topped consensus revenue estimates four times over the last four quarters.

The sustainability of the stock's immediate price movement based on the recently-released numbers and future FFO expectations will mostly depend on management's commentary on the earnings call.

Ventas shares have lost about 53.1% since the beginning of the year versus the S&P 500's decline of -10.8%.
