Two armed Metropolitan police officers charged in shooting of suspected robber

Two armed police officers have been charged over the shooting of a robbery suspect in London.

The Metropolitan Police officers, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are to appear in court next month.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said one officer identified as NX1, who shot the suspect, has been charged with wounding with intent.

The second officer, known as MY55, is accused of attempted wounding with intent.

The charges follow a referral from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which investigated the non-fatal shooting in December 2018.

It took place in Haydons Road, Wimbledon, where one man was injured during a police operation over a suspected plot to rob a cash-in-transit van.

The officers will  appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 25 November.

A CPS spokesperson said: “The CPS assessment of any case is not in any sense a finding of, or implication of, any guilt or criminal conduct. It is not a finding of fact, which can only be made by a court.”
