Tottenham told to only consider Julian Nagelsmann and Mauricio Pochettino as next manager: ‘No-one else’

Daniel Levy has been urged to ensure either Julian Nagelsmann or Mauricio Pochettino are appointed as Tottenham’s next permanent manager.

After Antonio Conte left the club by mutual agreement earlier in the international break, it was confirmed that Cristian Stellini will take charge of Spurs for the final 10 Premier League matches of the season, assisted by Ryan Mason.

The decision has been made to wait until the summer to make a permanent appointment, despite the likes of Naglesmann, Pochettino and Luis Enrique all being currently out of work. Spurs are likely to face competition at the end of the season too, with Real Madrid potentially looking to replace Carlo Ancelotti who has been linked with the Brazil job.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes only two names should be on the club’s shortlist, with Nagelsmann the top target.

“I’d love Spurs to get Julian Nagelsmann, he’d be an unbelievable appointment,” O’Hara told Grosvenor Sport.

“He’s a top, top manager. Bayern Munich were mad to sack him. He was only one point behind Borussia Dortmund, he had a 70% win ratio, he won every Champions League game and was in the quarter-finals. I think it was a crazy decision to get rid of him. He’s the best young manager in the world and I’d love him to go to Spurs.

“Tottenham have to go and get one of Nagelsmann or Mauricio Pochettino. That’s it, no-one else. Nagelsmann, for me, because he’s become available, he has to be the number one target. A manger like him doesn’t come along very often, so Spurs should do all they can to try and get him.”

Nagelsmann is unlikely to be short of options, after being sacked by Bayern Munich in a slightly surprising move from the Bundesliga club. Thomas Tuchel has been brought in, and he will be in charge for the Champions League quarter-final clash with Manchester City next month.

Should Spurs be unable to persude Nagelsmann to make the move to north London, O’Hara wants his former club to push for a familiar figure.

O’Hara added: “If not [Nagelsmann], they’ve got to bring in Pochettino, because he knows the club, he knows what it’s about, he’s still got the love with the fans, the fans still love him and I think him coming back would bring that feel-good factor.”
