Tiger Street Food Support Fund: Preserving Singapore’s Culture
We all grew up with hawker food from our favourite neighbourhood hawker centres. It was all part of growing up, watching the uncle or auntie swiftly prepare our bak chor mee or chicken rice. But this generation of uncles and aunties are starting to retire and the younger generation of hawkers are far and few between.
This is something Tiger Beer hopes to change with their Tiger Street Food Support Fund. They want to preserve the unique heritage that Singapore has and prevent this trade from dying. It’s a noble cause.

That is why they are pumping in a whopping S$300,000 into this fund for aspiring or existing hawkers. The fund is open to first-time hawkers or those who have just opened up within the last three months (as at August 2016).
Successful applicants will receive up to S$10,000 in funding or reimbursement. The money disbursed can be used to offset business costs with the exception of rent.
The fund is calling out to applicants from now till 15 November 2016. A total of 30 applicants will be selected and the winners will be announced in January 2017.
The fund is part of Tiger Beer’s street food movement with the goal of bringing Singaporeans together to preserve this street food culture. This started early in the year, in April, when the beer company made a commitment to reinvest S$0.20 into the fund for every 6-pack purchased.
