Thomas Tuchel hails ‘humble’ Chelsea after huge win over Norwich and explains early rant

Thomas Tuchel hails ‘humble’ Chelsea after huge win over Norwich and explains early rant

Thomas Tuchel revealed why he laid into his Chelsea players before they completed their biggest win of his tenure.

The Premier League leaders hammered Norwich 7-0 at Stamford Bridge, with Mason Mount hitting a hat-trick.

Tuchel was beaming afterwards, but earlier on had been seen lambasting the brilliant Callum Hudson-Odoi.

He explained: “Let’s be honest, there’s no reason we should start in the second minute with pressing if we can do it in the first minute.

“When we put on the shirt, we want to do what we do at the very best level and from the start.

“I am very happy with the performance, very happy with the intensity, very happy with the effort we put into the game.”

Chelsea had secured their previous biggest win - 4-0 - under Tuchel against Malmo in the Champions League in midweek.

They smashed that record against bottom-placed Norwich, with Tuchel demanding more of the same as they prepare to face Newcastle and Burnley – currently second and third from bottom, respectively – in their next two league games.

He added: “It was the fourth consecutive game as favourites and I like how we approach these games. There is no judging and no holding back, we play all in. This I like a lot of, it’s why we deserve these victories. It is key.

“But I don’t want to get carried away too much because we played four times in a row as favourites.

“I like the way we approached these games. It’s a humble approach and it sets our standards. We push ourselves and play all in every single match.

“We are not distracted by the role which we maybe are seeing ourselves as favourites before the match. This is most important and we have to keep going in this way and anything is possible.

“If you have a bit of luck, create more chances and you become more confident. We are then capable of scoring four to seven goals, there will be games which will be closer and we must prepare for those also.”
