The Expendables 4 could finally be in pre-production, judging by Sylvester Stallone's latest Instagram post.

Earlier this week, the Barney Ross actor (who also directed the first instalment in the muscular movie series) uploaded a behind-the-scenes shot of a chunky gold ring decorated with a jewell-eyed skull.

"Just finished the designing the new ring for EXPENDABLE 4," he wrote as a caption. "It's a little heavy, but it'll definitely put some muscles on your fingertips."

News of the fourth Expendables flick dates back to 2018 when Stallone struck a deal with Millennium Films to shoot the eponymous mercenary group's next big-screen mission.

It's been a quiet three years since, but the actor's fanbase seemed pretty stoked to receive this little update.

"A new [expendables]? brilliant" and "Come back Barney Ross" read two comments under Stallone's photo before another individual replied with: "A new Expendables film? Hell yeah!"

Conveniently, back in April 2020, Stallone unveiled the first-ever Expendables graphic novel, which would provide an interesting basis for a movie adaptation.

It chronicled the heroes' trek into a hellish, volcanic landscape whilst facing off against all manner of fantastical creatures.

Since Expendables 4 seems like it's a done deal now, watch this space for more updates.
