17 Feb – Director and actor Syamsul Yusof, his father Datuk Yusof Haslam and their company have won a lawsuit submitted by the author of the novel "Aku Bohsia", Elias Idris who claimed the movie "Bohsia: Jangan Pilih Jalan Hitam " directed by Syamsul was plagiarised from his novels .

Elias was ordered to pay damages amounting to RM100,000 and costs of RM40,000 to the three defendants.

The decision was made by High Court Judge, Datin Azizah Nawawi after finding out that the plaintiff failed to prove the defendants violated the copyright of the novel "Aku Bohsia" in the film which was released in 2009.

"The evidence from the plaintiff and the defendant show that 'bohsia' and 'mat rempit' are terms already found in our society. So that cannot be the basis of a comparison between the novel and the film."

"I also agree with the defendant that the lifestyle idea of 'bohsia' and 'mat rempit' are not protected under the Copyright Act 1987 and there is no breach of the equation," said the Judge as quoted in Bernama.

Acclaimed director and producer Yusof expressed his gratefulness in concluding the case. Both his and his son's name, and the reputation of Skop Productions was cleared from any charges
