Sweden cancels planned 2025 maintenance at Forsmark 3 nuclear reactor

OSLO (Reuters) - Vattenfall has cancelled its planned 2025 maintenance at the Forsmark 3 nuclear reactor, due an ongoing extended outage this year, the Swedish utility said in a statement on Monday.

The company on Nov. 8 said it had extended an ongoing maintenance outage at Forsmark 3 to Jan. 27 of 2025, more than three months longer than initially planned.

When Forsmark 3 restarts, Vattenfall now plans to run the reactor without shutdown until 2026, the company said, cancelling a 27-day outage period previously scheduled to commence in March next year.

The 2026 audit will be brought forward to March from July of that year and will last for 27 instead of the previously planned 15 days.

The decision shortens Forsmark 3's combined 2025 and 2026 maintenance by 15 days, allowing for more power production than originally planned, Vattenfall said.
