Super Mario Bros get an animated feature film

The iconic video game, Super Mario Bros is all set to turn into an animated feature film. In the video game, the Mario siblings, who work as plumbers, enter a world of foes. They get trapped when they try to rescue the princess from the evil Bowser. Though it is still unclear if the film will have the same plotline.

On Thursday, Illumination Studios and Nintendo announced the voice cast. As well as the release date for one of next year’s biggest films. This is a huge project from Nintendo, Illumination, and Universal. They have finally revealed the Hollywood stars who will be voicing the characters.

Chris Pratt will be the voice of Mario

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Pratt will be the voice of Mario. Taylor-Joy, seen in Queen’s Gambit, will voice Princess Peach, Mario’s love interest. Charlie Day will be the voice of Mario’s younger fraternal twin Luigi. Other stars who will join the film cast are Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong. Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong.

Mario and Luigi are two of the most beloved heroes in all of popular culture. We are honoured to have the unique opportunity to work closely with Shigeru Miyamoto. As well as the widely imaginative team at Nintendo to bring these characters to life. In an animated movie, unlike any film Illumination has made to date,” says Illumination CEO Christopher Meledandri.

Miyamoto is the producer of the film along with Meledandri. He says each cast member has the ability to capture the essence of the character they are voicing. Super Mario Bros will premiere on Dec. 21, 2022, in North America.
