What Do Analysts Expect from SunPower's 1Q16 Earnings?

SunPower’s earnings

SunPower Corporation (SPWR) plans to announce its 1Q16 earnings on May 5, 2016, after Market hours. Wall Street analysts’ consensus estimates forecast an adjusted EPS (earnings per share) of -$0.24. SunPower reported an adjusted EPS of -$0.91 in 4Q15 and -$0.01 in 1Q15.

Stock performance

From its 4Q15 earning release on February 17, 2016, until April 28, 2016, SunPower’s stock price lost nearly 12.5% in value. Stock prices of other major solar companies such as Canadian Solar (CSIQ) and Trina Solar (TSL) remained nearly flat during the same period. First Solar (FSLR) stock lost nearly 10% during the same period.

However, SunEdison (SUNE) was an exception among SunPower’s peers. Company-specific reasons caused SunEdison’s stock price to fall by nearly 74% in the same period. On April 21, 2016, SunEdison filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection .

The Guggenheim Solar ETF (TAN) tracks the broad-based solar market. It gained nearly 8% during the same period.
