Yahoo Finance 'Succession' Season 3 starts nastier, funnier and the stakes are higher between Team Logan vs. Team Kendall
The highly-anticipated Season 3 of HBO’s Succession brings back the iconic Roy family, starring Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, Jeremy Strong, Nicholas Braun, Alan Ruck, Sarah Snook and Matthew Macfadyen, in a strong start to the newest season of the drama, premiering Oct. 17 at 9:00 p.m. ET, on Crave in Canada, with each of the nine episodes released weekly.
During the brilliant cliffhanger ending of Season 2, Kendall (Strong) launches into an attack on his father Logan (Cox) at a press conference, calling him a “bully” and a “liar,” and a “malignant presence.” Kendall announces he's coming forward with evidence of his father covering up criminal activity related to the Waystar Royco cruise line scandal, sexual abuse and “disregard for the safety of migrant workers.”
Entering Season 3, we see Team Kendall vs. Team Logan, with the family members having to choose sides, while both camps are certainly initially scrambling to head into this familial battle.
There’s one thing that’s clear right at the beginning of this new season, the stakes are higher and there are a lot more nasty jabs across the board.
While that may sound particularly dramatic, it’s the incredibly well executed, layered storytelling in Succession that quickly solidified its spot in television history as one of the greatest shows we’ve had the pleasure to enjoy.
There are certainly dramatic moments but it’s the perfectly timed comedy of the show, whether it’s just a blunt statement from Logan, Tom (Macfadyen) and Greg’s generally anxious behaviour, which still unique to each character, or Roman’s (Culkin) sarcasm, it's all particularly captivating.
While generally placed in the drama category of television, Succession maintains its spot as one of the funniest shows to watch.
While it has been two years since Season 2 came to a close, fans of the show will be happy to hear that the beginning of Season 3 takes you right back to everything you loved about watching this ultra-rich family abuse their power, brawl with each other (and others), with irresistibly captivating performances from the whole cast.
Stephen Colbert put it perfectly when he interviewed the cast of Succession before the Season 3 premiere, saying that there is a "pornographic quality" of wanting to see the lives of all the characters in the show, and that sustains into the new season.
