Stocks In Focus (S’pore Non-Oil Exports, AusGroup, NeraTel) – 17/06/13

Singapore’s May 2013 NODX Fall 4.6%
Singapore’s non-oil domestic exports (NODX) tumbled 4.6 percent year-on-year in May 2013, extending the 1 percent dip in the previous month. International Enterprise Singapore, the government’s trade promotion agency, commented that the year-on-year decrease was due to a contraction in the electronic NODX which outweighed the rise in non-electronic NODX. May’s electronic NODX declined 13.2 percent from the year before, after a 9 percent fall in April 2013. The non-electronic NODX rose 0.2 percent last month, reining in from a 3.3 percent increase in the previous month. The month-on-month drop in May 2013′s NODX was a result of a slump in both electronic and non-electronic NODX. The top three contributors to the decline last month were South Korea, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Significance: Compared to a year ago, Singapore’s NODX to all its top 10 markets fell in the month of May, with the exception of China, Thailand, Hong Kong and Taiwan. NODX to emerging markets contracted by 3.9 percent in May 2013, compared to the 6.2 percent increase in the previous month.

AusGroup’s Subsidiary Secures A$34.5m Scaffolding Contract
MAS Australasia (MAS), a subsidiary of AusGroup, has secured a A$34.5 million scaffolding contract with CB&I and Kentz Joint Venture on the Chevron-operated Gorgon Project, one of the world’s largest natural gas projects and the largest single resource development in Australia’s history. MAS has been tasked to erect multi-purpose scaffolding which will be used to provide access for works undertaken on Barrow Island. The project is expected to create at least 80 local jobs, including the services of key MAS management personnel and the utilisation of a unique in-house Scaffold Management System. Chief executive officer and managing director of AusGroup, Laurie Barlow, said: “This contract win reinforces MAS as a leading industrial scaffolder in Australia and South East Asia, providing highly skilled personnel with the expertise to meet project challenges and deliver project outcomes to the highest standard.”

Significance: Barlow added that strong performance and delivery from the contract may position AusGroup to secure further work over the life of the construction project.

NeraTel Partners With Juniper Networks To Deliver SDN
Nera Telecommunications has partnered with Juniper Networks to deliver Software Defined Networks (SDN) to its clients in Southeast Asia. Juniper is one of the leading networks providers with a SDN strategy that tackles the key obstacles customers face with networks and provides a clear set of four steps that can permit customers to start taking advantage of the promise of a SDN-enabled network today. Building on Juniper’s four-step SDN roadmap, Juniper recently introduced its JunosV Contrail family of products, which will deliver a virtual network solution that seamlessly integrates into existing data centres to centralise control across various client IT architectures and multiple cloud platforms. JunosV Contrail offers customers the ability to collate analytical information from all aspects of the network in a clear and visible manner while simplifying operations to enable faster and more informed decision making on network resource utilisation.

Significance: SDN offers a reduction in operational cost of running a network, achieved primarily through automation as well as providing a faster rate for the delivery and absorption of innovation by vendors and customers respectively.
