ST Engineering joins airport development consortium

ST Engineering joins airport development consortium

It inked a deal with Surbana Jurong and Changi Airport Planners and Engineers to collaborate on future projects.

ST Engineering joined forces with Surbana Jurong and Changi Airport Planners and Engineers Pte Ltd (CAPE) to form a consortium of Singapore-based companies that will participate in overseas airport development projects.

According to a joint statement, the consortium plans to develop a comprehensive export strategy for this business area with a particular focus on Asia Pacific markets and cities with strong growth potential. Projected global airport development expenditure is expected to hit US$1t up to 2058, the three said.

“Tapping on the unique strengths and complementary capabilities of the companies, the consortium will deliver holistic, end-to-end solutions that can transform the global airport development industry, enhance efficiency and security of airport operations, as well as improve air travel experience. This will drive the consortium’s common objective in implementing smart city initiatives worldwide that enhance standards of living and improve lives of people,” the three said.

ST Engineering will tap into its deep tech capacities like data analytics and artificial intelligence, and leverage technologies like analytics-driven airport operations command systems, security solutions such as counter drone, sensor-based intruder detection as well as biometrics screening, and unmanned aerobridge systems.

Surbana Jurong will offer its expertise in urbanisation, industrialisation and infrastructure planning and provide its full suite of multi-disciplinary services, such as master planning of aerotropoli, large scale infrastructure, services design, as well as building consultancy services for the aviation sector.

The consortium will enable access to partners’ experience and expertise that strengthen its global, go-to-market strategy, as well as deliver greater economies of scale, efficiency and effectiveness.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed by ST Engineering president and CEO Vincent Chong, Surbana Jurong group CEO Wong Heang Fine, CAPE managing director Peter Lee.

In the coming months, the companies will initiate activities as part of their strategy to expand the consortium’s presence in target overseas markets, which include defining tender participation requirements and developing best practices and go-to-market approach recommended by the steering committee.
