Speedrun to open gummy packs is like Japan’s version of honeycomb candy challenge

Who knew that opening a pack of gummy can be turned into a game?

Apparently, Japan does, when they listed it as one of the segments in a speedrun event in Nagoya. In this event, participants have to clear a game in the shortest time possible. The time taken is measured using an external timer (as opposed to an in-game timer).

Among legit games like Mario & Luigi and Ring Fit Adventure, Anpanman Gummy Opening stood out almost like a joke. Except, they are dead serious about it, and the challenge is only possible with this particular pack of Anpanman gummy.

It contains six gummies in the shapes of the Anpanman characters. Fitted tightly into a plastic tray, these gummies are covered with a film made of starch. The challenge is to remove this fragile film without tearing it.

For those familiar with the White Rabbit Candy, the Anpanman Gummy Opening is similar to removing the rice paper on the White Rabbit Candy.

Currently, the fastest in the world is Japanese YouTuber Inukamike, with a record of 8.26 seconds.

Although failing to remove the film without a tear will not result in getting shot like in Squid Game’s dalgona (honeycomb candy) challenge, succeeding in it may give you a sense of euphoria. Would you buy a pack of Anpanman gummy to try?
