Singtel hits 1.1Gbps data speed in trials with Ericsson

Singtel hits 1.1Gbps data speed in trials with Ericsson

This is two to three times faster than LTE peak speeds.

Singtel and Ericsson recorded an internet speed of 1.1Gbps, through a trial using wireless technology Licensed Assisted Access (LAA) technology.

According to a press release, this will provide internet speeds two to three times faster than peak LTE speeds.

Singtel said this is the first time for a wireless technology in Asia Pacific hit the peak speed.

Ericsson said LAA is an LTE feature that uses a 5 GHz unlicensed band in combination with the licensed spectrum to deliver a performance boost for mobile device users.

Singtel's 4.5G LTE network currently offers data speeds of 500Mbps.
