SINGAPORE – Supermarket chain Giant is offering reduced pricing on its Farm Fresh Eggs for the Hari Raya festivities.

Starting Monday (17 April), the housebrand Farm Fresh Eggs will retail at S$6.85 for a tray of 30 pieces, down from the usual S$7.85. The promotion will last until Sunday, 23 April.

"With the rising cost of living and inflation, Giant remains committed to providing quality and great value for Singaporeans during this festive period," the retailer said in an emailed statement to media.

This offer is available exclusively to yuu members, across all Giant Singapore retail stores. There will be a limit of two trays per customer.

Egg prices globally have been rising due to factors such as disease outbreaks and supply disruptions.

The Ukraine-Russia conflict as well as the increasing costs of chicken feed, fuel and transport are also contributing to rising prices.

To meet the national demand, The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) announced in early April that it has approved Indonesia as a new exporter of table eggs to Singapore. This brought the number of countries accredited to export eggs to Singapore to 18 countries, up from 12 in 2019.

The SFA noted in a February 2023 article, on its digital publication Food for Thought, that around 70 per cent of Singapore's chicken egg supply is imported, while the remaining 30 per cent comes from local production.

Local egg production is expected to meet about half of Singapore's demand for eggs when the fourth egg farm begins operations in 2024.
