Singapore-KL high-speed rail deal to be inked later this year

Singapore-KL high-speed rail deal to be inked later this year

The travel time between the two cities will be 90 minutes.

The signing of the High-Speed Rail (HSR)’s Bilateral Agreement (BA) between Singapore and Malaysia will most likely to take place on Dec 21, says Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan .

"Both sides are now taking the necessary follow-up action to comply with their respective internal procedures and legal requirements for the signing of the Agreement," he said.

The 350km HSR project which is expected to run in 2026, will link Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. With a top speed of more than 300kph, it promises to cut travel time between the two cities to just 90 minutes.

According to the minister, he met with Singapore's Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Khaw Boon Wan, on Nov 29 to discuss the remaining details of the agreement.

The two prime ministers had witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two cities on the HSR project in July.

Construction works for the project will begin in 2018. The HSR terminus will be located in Jurong East in Singapore, while Malaysia will have seven stations.
