Shake Shack unveils black truffle burger and fries for limited run

Shake Shack (SHAK) unveiled a new truffle-themed menu on Tuesday, but it will only be available for a limited-time.

The lineup includes a black truffle burger and parmesan garlic fries with black truffle sauce. Beginning on October 12, customers can get early access through the Shack App, then later this week it will be on menus nationwide from October 15 to January 10, 2022.

The burger is topped with gruyere cheese, real black truffle sauce and crispy shallots on a toasted potato bun. The second part of the lineup includes the well-known crispy crinkle cuts topped with garlic parmesan cheese and served with the black truffle sauce on the side.

Though truffles are known for their high prices, Shake Shack is able to keep the cost relatively similar to its classic ShackBurger, which starts at $5.79, with pricing for the black truffle burger starting at $8.79. The parmesan garlic fries with black truffle sauce are $4.79.

To help bring the truffle lineup to life, Shake Shack teamed up with Regalis Foods, known for providing luxury products to restaurants nationwide. To make the truffle sauce, the company uses Regalis Foods' Black Truffle Arbequina Olive Oil.

Mark Rosati, Shake Shack culinary director, said the dish was inspired by Shake Shack's "fine dining roots with an emphasis on premium ingredients."

"We love crafting fun, delicious menu items in an elevated way. Our new Black Truffle Burger blends our roadside burger DNA with our fine dining heritage and is meant to be enjoyed by all, whenever and however our guests want it," Rosati noted in the release.

Back in June, Shake Shack launched a limited run of the Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich which remained on menus nationwide until October 4. The company called it "a spin" on the "beloved Chick'n Shack."

Compared to a year ago, shares of Shake Shack are up 19%; year-to-date shares are up 24%.
