Scholz welcomes Tusk's wish to return Poland to heart of EU

BERLIN, Dec 13 (Reuters) - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz congratulated Donald Tusk's appointment as Polish prime minister on Wednesday and welcomed his aim to return Poland to the heart of EU decision-making.

"Donald Tusk has said he will bring Poland back to the heart of the European Union which is exactly where Poland belongs," Scholz said in an address to parliament.

"Poland's role in and for Europe is bigger today than ever before" given its support for neighbor Ukraine in the face of Russia's invasion, the chancellor said.

The chancellor added that the German government would seek quickly to deepen its relations with Poland. (Reporting by Thomas Escritt; Writing by Sarah Marsh; Editing by Linda Pasquini)
